At Skin Care with Dory, I have been asked “If I could use one product; Which one would you recommend?”
Wanting to be “low maintenance” has been a part of conversations with clients looking for advice.
I often use this metaphor to help the client understand the necessity of skin care.
If you own a car that has not been serviced for some time, the shop will evaluate the systems to ensure your well-being and safety are considered. The mechanic will note that the breaks may be squeaking, steering felt wobbly, oil has been in need of changing for some time, and rust spots forming on the exterior. To your perception the car has been running fine and only minor nuisances were noticed by your inexperienced eye. Your car gets you where you want to go…but by not addressing some of these issues, one day you could be stuck on a long stretch of road without support. You want to maintain your automobile – So, why would you ignore your body and face?
When we are young, we falsely believe that the years that we will face aging will be so long in the future. We develop bad or no habits as we may feel immortal. Then one day, a glance in the mirror and we start seeing the effects of our disregard for the one thing that people see when we first meet them. Our face! We’ve been given “hall passes” because our youth is so forgiving. Until it isn’t. We don’t want to experience the awareness with the shock of statements like, “I don’t know what happened to my face”…I used to be able to roll out of bed and jump into my day with little to no effort…
“But, I’m low maintenance” — Low maintenance doesn’t mean no maintenance. Little steps can be taken to ensure that your face shows the vitality and age you feel inside. Yes, there is cost, but instead of purchasing a few bottles of wine, you can purchase products that will last months and the payoff is resilience, vibrance and confidence. And that shows and is reflected back to us. At Skin Care with Dory, Our mechanic will advise best practices for your vehicle. Why would we sacrifice small additions to our own best-practices to ensure that our body vehicle is running smoothly and in mint condition so maintenance doesn’t turn into repairing damage that is much more costly, time-consuming and takes longer to see results…like age spots that take a longer time to correct or wrinkles that need “extra work”?
